The New Star is Born

Babe- a mix breed that is more then 2 years now is a furkid for a very discipline and tidy homemaker. When Babe first came he refuse to taste any dog treats either handmade by Puppy Central or even ready made dog biscuits... This is him.. a mature dog with an attitude:-

So, after having filtration in his food selection... he use to have human food and dry dog food, and he was totally changed ... the 3rd time he came.. his was totally food motivated and starting to enjoy the treats we gave... here are some of his performance.

Tragic on My student Dong Dong- Fungus Infection

During my trip to Singapore, Dong Dong has a great outing with his master in the 3rd beach, Tanjung Aru. However, right after 2 days of the beach day out, the master found out that Dong Dong has a severe big patch of slimy blood and wet skin injuries on the surfaces of the skin. It was so severe that he has to bring to doctor immediately. And confirm, it is Fungul Infection in Dogs... Called Histoplasmosis.

Dong Dong with his patch of Fungus Infection... Poor thing.

Fungul Infection-is a very common yet tedious and torchedful infection in dogs. They made your dog looks ugly ( bold :( ), fell itchy, and most of all... the infection spread and take long time to heal...

How do dogs get Fungus Infection?

The primary cause of this infection is the ingestion of the Histoplasma capsulatum fungus. The fungus may be inhaled when contaminated soil is disturbed, such as what happens when dogs scratch or dig in the dirt, or through contact with contaminated bird droppings, including that from poultry, and bat droppings.

Research found that other causes include:-

Diarrhea and anemia — may be a severe hooworm infection
Enlarged liver, spleen or lymph nodes — consistent with lymphoma
Respiratory problems — may be distemper, bacterial pheumoia, heart disease

It seems our tropical state, Sabah is very very prone to these environment, with our dirty beaches, stray dogs around, and even poops everywhere, attracts the dogs to sniff and get into them (dig).

Treatment

Veterinarians will usually treat this condition with medications on an outpatient basis. If inpatient treatment is recommended, it may be as the result of your dog being unable to absorb nutrients properly (malabsorption) due to the intestinal disorder. If this is the case, your veterinarian will administer drugs, nutrients, and fluids intravenously until the condition has improved.

Living and Management

After the initial treatment, your dog's activity level should be reduced until it is fully recovered. Cage rest, or restriction to an enclosed environment will limit your dog's movement enough so that it will not stress itself and prolong the recovery period. If the condition does recur, a second course of treatment may be needed.

Prevention?

To prevent the development of histoplasmosis, you will need to try to steer your dog away from areas that are suspected areas of exposure to the histoplasma fungus, such as where birds, poultry or bats might roost, or around soil that is obviously contaminated with bird droppings.

Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals ( SPCA)

SPCA is non profit organization that helps to prevent the increasing numbers of abandoned, unwanted of dogs and cats and the cruelty towards animals. They are an animal welfare organization whose operations is include protecting and providing shelter to animals in danger.and help them to get adopted.

The Sabah SPCA, is founded 3 years ago and they are striving through to spread the responsible pet ownership awareness throughout the state. Despite the effort of recruiting new members and volunteers, they also run pet adoption programme and lobbying the government towards more effective legistlation and human enforcemant.

As part of a layman role in promoting the responsible pet ownership awarenes, i am contributing my thought towards my friends and blog readers here.... It doesn matter if you have a kampung dog, mix breed or a pure breed high end pet... A basic dog care requirement is necessary for any pet owners to know:-

1. An annual dog license in accordance with dovernment regulations.
(DBKK office to obtain form)

2. Annual Vaccination which covers 7 canine diseases-distemper,leptospirosis,canine hepatitis,
Parvo virus, canine adeno virus type II, para influenza and corona virus. Regular de worm
also recommended.

3. Dogs that kep outdoor, or spend a lot of their time outdoors should be placed on preventative
heatworm medication.

4. Veterinary care schedule

5. Trainning and exercising your dog, wether by yourself or a professional, will involve time or
money or both.

6. Providing a balance diet for your dog.

7. Making the necessary arrangements for your dog's needs if you go away on vacation.

8. To spayed or neutered for the well being of your dogs health, if there is no
intention for breeding.

This is what i want to emphasize here today, to spayed your dog to prevent mass re production purposes of unwanted dogs. Please support SPCA KK of their effort on Spaying campaign on the 4th-11 Oct 2009, free counselling and advice,Responsible Pet ownership, spaying and neutering.
They will be locating at Atrium of Citymall on the 4th Oct 09, and at Gaya Street Sunday Market on the 11th Oct 09...

Vicky- The Demodecosis attack

For quite sometimes i have been hiding Vicky behind the bar... She is little ugly duckling that attacked by nasty mites that is popular to puppy namely : Demodecosis or Red Mange..

All dogs raised normally by their mothers possess this mite as mites are transferred from mother to pup via cuddling during the first few days of life. Most dogs live in harmony with their mites, never suffering any consequences from being parasitized. If, however, conditions change to upset the natural equilibrium (such as some kind of suppression of the dog's immune system), the Demodex mites may "gain the upper hand." The mites can cause serious skin disease.

I suppose this mites overdose Vicky during her transit from KL-KK... Being a pampered puppy in her x master's, she was totally lost that she has to be quarantined for a month and being a pug, seperation anxiety is the most common issue that cause stress to them..

Poor Vicky,Her condition gets worsen from small black patches to big rashes that contains water and "nanah"...
The patches in her eyes and right hind leg, is

an absolute pain in my heart... she is now going through an 8 weeks Ivermectin Injection that really cause a lot of stress to me and her.. However, i still dont see any improvement in her.. situation get worst and her under carriage has develop more rashes...
On the third week, i couldnt bare to see Vicky situation and i brought her again to SAMC.. this time, vet gave me a bathing medicated treatment dip, namely Tactic... it smells like carosine ! but it works... its a no rinse soap free medicine that penetrate from the outer layer of the skin..

I have done some research on this Killing skin desease, it is contageous to other dogs and if its severe it can contageous even to cat and human... gross~ but Yiak i m in the industry..

So vicky really needs help... emotionally, medically and even financially...Vicky.. please get well soon and you will be able to join the others again...

Pet Transport Procedure- Step 2

~ When all permits are ready......

Now this is the significant moment to arrange your dog flight schedule.. Be your destination within Malaysia or out of Malaysia. All the arrangement made has to be MAS CARGO PET TRANSPORT. which is the subsidiary of MAS. Please refer to my blog on MAS Pet Animal Hotel under Pet Transport. Please call MAS CARGO reservation at 03-87771847

An early time schedule is best for you and your dog so you can pre arrange your furkid usual paraphenalia, such as, chew toy, proper cage ( which enable the dogs to stand straight), and pillow if necessary. Some dry food can be attach at the side for the handler staff to feed them in between transit. The significant record is the airwaybill number for your pet during the flight, make sure they are not too fully fed and check in 6 hours before the flight schedule.

If there is no necessity to overnight, that would actually the best, then you can arrange someone to pick up your pet during arrival.

Hmm.. perhaps you can check my personal blog at :-

Bon Voyage Babeh~

Pet Transport Procedure : Step 1

Hi All,

I came across a few friends that really wish to fly along with their furkids during their relocation.
Pets~ be it feline, canine, horse or even rabbit. It has always been a long procedure to bring them from one place to another.

As for canine/feline, the first step an owner need to take note is the health condition (see if ur furkid is fit to fly within that period),by the way, all furkis below 6 months are not allow to fly, however, if you are confident with the health of your pup/ kitten, you can apply for early transport schedule. complete vaccination .. which is antibody.. if your dog is not microchip, you can bring them to animal clinic to get their microchip done as all documentation of pet transport is base on their microchip but not their name or breed.
When all the above are ready.. it is now the time to obtain an import/ export permit from the authority. This is not difficult procedure, however, it really consume a lot of time. If you are flying from KL-KK, the you should browse through http://www.davetsa.gov.my/ to get your import permit. However if you are flying from KK-KL then you need to obtain the import permit at Jabatan Perkhidmatan Haiwan at Jln Perdana, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. When import permit is obtaind, you have to bring along your furkid for inspection in the authorize clinic for export permit requirement. i.e for Sabah is Jabatan Perkhidmatan Haiwan Sabah, Kepayan.
All this will only cost you less then RM30 .. however, the time spent and queue ... is a sweat ...
Next i will touch on Mas Cargo Reservation and MAS Animal Hotel arrangement. Stay Back :)

Dog Care- An essential home hygene care for your furkid

Hi.. As we all know, Sabah community is very lucky and blessed. Every household has got ample space, every household can even have up to 3 dogs at home, and a domestic dog is only serve as a purpose to be guard dog or alert dog for each household.

In metropolitan city, dogs are not only serve as a purpose of alert, they also serve as a therapeutic companion and service dog. Certain dogs does give comfort to their masters, some even sleep with the masters, day in and out. So how do we actually take care of our dogs hygene?

A few things we need to note and always check on is their ears, under carriage( sanitary area), claws, paws pad, and hair mat...

Ears -
Ears are the most significant area in checking your dogs. this is because most dirt, germs and even ticks and fleas likes to trap themselves in between the folded ears and breed in it. Hence, the floppy ears are easy infected and caused skin desease.

Under carriage ( sanitary area) -

sanitary area are always in touch with hair during the urine. Hence, the discharge from urine always trap at the tip of the hair and sometimes around the sanitary area. it is important to keep all hair away from sanitary area in order to avoid, anal infection, as well as skin problem around under carriage.

Pad Paw-

As you can see they are always hair growth in between the paw pads of our furkid ( especially, Goldent retriever, husky, poodle, shit Tzu, Chow Chow, Cocker Spaniel, maltese, Havanese ....) it is important to remove the paw pads hair in order to keep our dogs feet clean and away from external trapped germs.

Hair mat-

This matting issue has been occuring to most of the long hair furkids i.e : maltese, shitzu, silky terrier and even poodle. de matting is important to make our dogs always Look good , fluffy and confident while going out with the master.... De matting is a form of cleaning our dog by letting the air in between their fur to loosen so germs doesnt easyly trap inside.

An Amateur pet lover should know the basic knowledge of a dog's care. I will post more pictures on the condition of desease, infected ears and also long paw pads condition in my post soon.

Just to share my 8 days experience with Sabah dog lovers on an experience with DogCare singapore
