QUARANTINE

QUARANTINE - Is the word that most pet owner, pet transport agent or even pet lovers hate.. it a jail period for our beloved pet..

The purpose of Quarantine is to identify an easyly spreadable desease called Rabies. The rabies virus, are presented in the saliva of an animal. It is usually spread through bites and also scratches of punctures the victim's skin. Most human victimes suffer from rabies through their own dog bites ( saliva) , suffer excruciating pain on swallowing liquids. Though they suffer from thirst, animal and human rabies victims can be terrified by the sight of water, hence another name for the disease, hydrophobia.

Symtom of Rabies- symptom of rabies usually happen between 20-60 days. Rabid animals may become aggressive, combative, and highly sensitive to touch and other kinds of stimulation. And they can be vicious. The kind traditionally associated with mad dogs. This is the reason why, the JPHPT ( Jabatan Perkhidmatan Haiwan & Perusahaan Ternak ) restricted all entry dogs must be isolated at Kinarut of a minimum of 30 days. Usually a quarantine dog can be detected with rabies if they are lethargic, weak in one or more limbs and eventually unable to raise his head and neck, and fatal.

Since in our states, stray dogs is not fully in control yet, prevention of rabies is very important.

No matter where the wound, authorities emphasize that the first and most valuable preventive measure is thorough cleaning of the site with soap and water, and immediate medical attention.
If rabies vaccine treatment is called for, it should be started as soon as possible after exposure. Counting the first day of vaccine treatment as day 0, injections are administered on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28.

In a business perspective, some traders might think that skiping the quarantine is the fasters way to trade their dogs. However to a more social responsibilty point of view, we just pray that the dogs that were smuggle out are rabies free, otherwise, the spreading of mad dog desease, can caused a disasters to all pet owners... which all dogs may have to be euthanized in order to cure the vulnarable spreadable desease.

Last week, I spare the morning to spend quality time with Dingo in the Kinarut quarantine station. He had a good bath, good run and even little triaining. I just wish she can come out fast and stay with us for a home quarantine. Dingo is rabies free and he is healthyly active for the next good home!
